What’s New?!

New technology. A closer look. Follow along as we explore the powertrains, vehicle developments and ideas that interest us at Atlantic.

A closer look at Ford hybrid technology.

Ford hybrids are part of our day-to-day work at Atlantic. Understanding how engine power and electric drive work together helps explain what makes these systems different.

Ford’s PowerBoost system combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor integrated into a 10-speed modular hybrid transmission. The battery and regenerative braking system help capture and reuse energy, while Pro Power Onboard adds generator capability.

What’s next for GM electric vehicles.

Our work with GM electric vehicles keeps us interested in where the technology is heading—from the systems that drive the wheels to the batteries that power them.

GM’s recent developments focus on battery affordability, charging and new ways to use stored energy. With LG Energy Solution, GM is developing lithium manganese-rich batteries for future electric trucks and full-size SUVs, targeting commercial production in 2028.

Compatible GM EVs can also provide home backup power with the required equipment. GM is testing ways for vehicles to support the electric grid, extending battery technology beyond driving.

Tesla technology keeps evolving.

At Atlantic, understanding a Tesla concern means looking at both the mechanical systems and the electronics behind them. Following hardware and software developments is part of that broader picture.

Tesla’s recent vehicle developments include a refreshed Model Y with redesigned suspension, improved ride comfort and a quieter cabin. Alongside hardware changes, Tesla delivers wireless software updates that add features and improve existing functions on compatible vehicles.

The changes available depend on the vehicle’s model, hardware and software version. Tesla’s official resources explain vehicle designs, how updates work and the company’s ongoing development plans.
